Oval Ruby Diamond Halo Pendant Set in 18K Gold

There are coloured stones that ask to be noticed and there are coloured stones that command it. Ruby sits firmly in the second group. When we set out to build this three piece halo set around oval rubies in 18K gold, we started from the understanding that the stone would do the work and our job was to support it without getting in the way.

The ruby in each piece was selected for its tone. A ruby that veers too far toward pink loses its authority. One that reads too dark loses its life. The stones in this set sit in a range that holds both qualities at once, and keeping them consistent across the earrings, pendant and ring required more careful sourcing than any other decision in this design. The earrings carry 1.06 carats of ruby total. The pendant holds 0.47 carats. The ring completes the set at 0.5 carats. Each is surrounded by a clean diamond halo that reinforces the stone's shape without competing with its colour.

The 18K gold setting was chosen for the same reason it is always chosen with rubies. Gold and ruby have been together in fine jewelry for centuries for a reason. The warmth in the metal and the warmth in the stone agree with each other in a way that cooler metals do not quite achieve. The metal weights across the three pieces keep the set light enough to wear comfortably for extended periods while giving each piece enough presence to be felt.

This set was made for the woman who does not shy away from colour. Wearing ruby well requires a certain kind of confidence, and we designed this set for the person who already has it.
